The biggest dinosaur ever discovered is the Patagotitan mayorum, a titanosaur that lived over 100 million years ago in what is now Patagonia, Argentina. It weighed about 70 tons in life and was as much as 10 African elephants in weight. The length of Patagotitan is estimated to be around 37.5 meters (123 feet), making it potentially the longest dinosaur to have ever lived. Other contenders for the title of the biggest dinosaur include Argentinosaurus, which was longer and more massive than modern elephants, hippopotamuses, and rhinoceroses. However, no complete skeletons of Argentinosaurus have been found, so estimates of its length range from 37 to 40 meters. Other large sauropods include Turiasaurus, which is the largest dinosaur found in Europe so far, and Supersaurus, which is the largest known dinosaur based on fossils found in Colorado. However, the size of Supersaurus is still debated, and recent studies have found that the fossil remains that formed the basis of its size estimate did not belong to the dinosaur.
