The first horror movie is a topic of debate, but many consider "Le Manoir du Diable" (1896), also known as "The Haunted Castle" or "The House of the Devil," to be the first-ever horror movie. Directed by Georges Méliès, the film features innovative camera trickery and a mischievous devil who appears inside a medieval castle where he harasses the visitors. However, films prior to the 1930s, such as early German expressionist cinema and trick films, have also been retrospectively described as horror films as the genre did not become a codified genre until the release of "Dracula" (1931) . Other early horror films include "Dantes Inferno" (1911), the first feature-length horror film, and "The Terror" (1928), the first talking horror movie.
