The primary finding of the Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart was that identical twins raised apart are as similar in personality, interests, and cognitive abilities as identical twins raised together, with roughly two- thirds of the variation in IQ attributed to genetic factors. This work provided strong evidence for the substantial genetic influence on many psychological traits and suggested that environmental rearing conditions have limited impact on those traits for monozygotic twins.
