The Georgia Guidestones were a granite monument that stood in Elbert County, Georgia, United States, from 1980 to 2022. The monument was 19 feet 3 inches (5.87 m) tall and made from six granite slabs weighing a total of 237,746 pounds (107,840 kg). The monument had messages inscribed on it in eight different languages, including Arabic, English, Hebrew, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Traditional Chinese. The inscriptions dealt with four main themes: governance and the establishment of a world government, population and reproduction control, the environment and mans relationship to nature, and spirituality. The English portion of the inscription read: "Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature. Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity. Unite humanity with a living new language. Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court. Avoid petty laws and useless officials. Balance personal rights with social duties. Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite. Be not a cancer on the Earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature".
