Several different whale species can be seen in the waters of Hermanus throughout the year, but the Southern Right Whale is the main species that visits the shores of Hermanus. Other species of whales that can be viewed are Humpback Whales and Brydes Whales. The best time for whale watching in Hermanus is from June to December when large numbers of Southern Right Whales congregate here for mating. During this time, people can view hundreds of whales from the cliff tops along the shore or on boat trips. In addition to whales, there are opportunities to see other marine animals such as African Penguins, Cape Fur Seals, and dolphins on cruises in the area.
