Dr. Sadao and his wife Hana find a wounded man who is a prisoner of war and an enemy soldier. Despite the risks to their own safety and the fact that helping him is illegal, they decide to take him to their home to treat and save his life. Dr. Sadao performs surgery to remove a bullet and heal the man's wounds, while Hana helps care for him by feeding and washing him. They treat him with compassion and do their best to nurse him back to health, all the while planning to eventually hand him over to the authorities when he recovers. However, they are conflicted and do not immediately decide what to do with the man after saving him.
