On October 4, 2023, there will be a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) conducted by FEMA and the FCC. The test will consist of two parts, testing the capabilities of both WEA and EAS, and is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20 p.m. Eastern Time. The purpose of the test is to ensure that the systems remain an effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those at the national level. If the test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the backup testing date will be October 11.
