Joe Theismann broke his leg on November 18, 1985, during a Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. . Lawrence Taylor, a linebacker for the Giants, tackled Theismann from behind, causing a comminuted compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg. The injury was so severe that one of the bones broke through the skin, and Theismanns leg was in a cast for three months, ending his season.
