Ronald Reagan served as the 40th President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. He won the Republican Presidential nomination in 1980 and was elected President in November of that year, defeating incumbent President Jimmy Carter. Reagan was inaugurated on January 20, 1981, and served two terms in office, leaving the presidency on January 20, 1989.
