Anh Do and his family came to Australia as refugees in 1980. They fled Vietnam on a small fishing boat and endured a perilous journey lasting five days across the Indian Ocean, during which they were attacked by pirates and faced severe hardships before being rescued by a German merchant ship. After arriving, his family settled in the Sydney suburb of Yagoona.
