Muammar Gaddafi died on October 20, 2011. He was killed by rebel forces near his hometown of Sirte, Libya, after being captured following the Battle of Sirte. His death occurred shortly after a NATO airstrike targeted a convoy he was in, and he was subsequently captured and executed by National Transitional Council (NTC) fighters.
