Hinduism does not have a single clear starting date, because it developed gradually from very ancient religious traditions in the Indian subcontinent rather than being founded by one person at one moment in time. Many scholars trace its earliest roots to the Indus Valley civilization and early Vedic religion between about 2500–1500 BCE, which is why it is often called one of the world’s oldest living religions.
