Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970, in London at the age of 27. The cause of death was asphyxiation from choking on his own vomit after an overdose of barbiturate sleeping pills, specifically nine Vesparax tablets, which was 18 times the recommended dose. Hendrix was found unresponsive in the apartment of his girlfriend Monika Dannemann at the Samarkand Hotel in Notting Hill and was pronounced dead at St Mary Abbots Hospital at 12:45 p.m. that day. The coroner recorded an open verdict, finding no evidence of suicide, and the death was considered accidental.
