The Labour Party first came into power in the United Kingdom in January 1924 with Ramsay MacDonald as Prime Minister. This was a minority government that lasted until November 1924. The government was supported tacitly by the Liberals but fell after a vote of no confidence. Despite its short duration, it achieved notable reforms in housing, education, and social insurance.

Later, Labour had a significant victory in the 1945 general election under Clement Attlee, forming a majority government that introduced transformative social reforms including the creation of the National Health Service (NHS) and expanded social security.
