Television came to India on September 15, 1959, with experimental transmission starting from Delhi. Initially, it was a modest beginning with a makeshift studio, a low-power transmitter, and limited reach. The early broadcasts focused mainly on educational content such as community health and traffic safety. Daily transmission as part of All India Radio began in 1965, and the service expanded to Mumbai in 1972, followed by other cities in the mid-1970s.
