Tylenol was introduced to the market in 1955 by McNeil Laboratories as a safe and effective treatment for pain and fever reduction in children, initially available by prescription only. It was later made available for adults in 1961, and Johnson & Johnson acquired McNeil Laboratories in 1959, after which Tylenol became available over the counter.
