The clocks change in 2025 as follows:
- In the UK and most of Europe, the clocks go forward by one hour at 1:00 am on Sunday, March 30, 2025, marking the start of Daylight Saving Time (British Summer Time in the UK and Central European Summer Time in Europe). This means the time immediately shifts from 1:00 am to 2:00 am (UK) or 2:00 am to 3:00 am (Central Europe), shortening the night by one hour.
- The clocks go back by one hour at 2:00 am on Sunday, October 26, 2025, marking the end of Daylight Saving Time and the return to standard time. This shifts the time from 2:00 am back to 1:00 am (UK) or from 3:00 am to 2:00 am (Central Europe), giving an extra hour of sleep.
In the United States, daylight saving time begins earlier, on March 9, 2025, when clocks move forward at 2:00 am, and ends on November 2, 2025, when clocks move back at 2:00 am. So for 2025:
- Europe (including UK) spring forward: March 30, 2025
- Europe (including UK) fall back: October 26, 2025
- US spring forward: March 9, 2025
- US fall back: November 2, 2025
This practice aims to make better use of daylight in the evenings during longer spring and summer days and was originally implemented to save energy.
