Jinbei officially joins the Straw Hat crew in episode 980 of the One Piece anime, during the Wano Country arc. However, Luffy acknowledged Jinbei as a crew member earlier, around episode 876, but Jinbei delayed his official joining to protect his former crew and settle his ties with Big Mom's pirates first. He becomes the helmsman and tenth member of the crew at that point.
