Bandi Chhor Divas in 2025 will be observed on October 21. This Sikh festival commemorates the release of Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru, and 52 other Hindu kings from Gwalior Fort prison in 1619. Although Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, falls on October 20 in 2025, Bandi Chhor Divas is celebrated the day after, on October 21. The festival is marked by lighting homes and gurdwaras, processions called Nagar Kirtan, continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib (Akhand Paath), fireworks, and community kitchens (langar), symbolizing freedom and human rights.
