Governor Brian Kemp is sending out one-time special tax rebate checks to eligible Georgia taxpayers starting in June 2025. These rebates are a result of the state's surplus and are part of a conservative budget practice and a strong state economy. The refunds began rolling out around mid-June 2025, with deposits starting to appear in bank accounts labeled “GASTTAXRFD.” The refund amounts vary based on tax filing status:

• $250 for individuals filing as single or married filing separately
• $375 for heads of household
• $500 for couples filing jointly

Eligibility requirements include filing Georgia income tax returns for both 2023 and 2024, being a full-time Georgia resident, and not being claimed as a dependent on another's 2023 return. The payments are issued 6 to 8 weeks after filing. The refunds are either deposited directly into the bank accounts of those who filed with direct deposit or sent as paper checks to others. These rebates are not considered taxable income and mark the third round of such refunds under Governor Kemp's leadership, with previous rounds issued in 2022 and 2023. So far, most eligible taxpayers who filed timely can expect to have already started receiving these checks from June 2025 onward.
