When neither air mass is advancing, it is called a stationary front. This occurs when two air masses meet but neither is strong enough to move the other, resulting in a front that remains relatively still. Stationary fronts can last for hours or even days, often causing prolonged cloudy conditions and precipitation if the air masses are sufficiently humid.
