It is recommended to get a COVID-19 test if you have symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, flu-like symptoms, or new respiratory symptoms. Testing should be done immediately upon symptom onset. If the first antigen test is negative but symptoms persist, it's advised to retest after 48 hours. Additionally, if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 but have no symptoms, you should wait at least five full days after exposure before testing. Testing before gatherings or before being around people at high risk of severe illness is also wise. People who had COVID-19 recently (within the last 3 months) may delay vaccination but should test if symptoms develop. Testing is important to detect infection early for treatment and to prevent spreading the virus.
