Gucci was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci in Florence, Italy. Initially, the company began as a retailer of leather goods and luggage, inspired by Guccio Gucci's experience working at the Savoy hotel in London and his admiration for the luxury suitcases of the city's aristocrats. The first Gucci boutique opened on Via della Vigna Nuova in Florence.
