The Gunpowder Plot took place in 1605, with the key events occurring on the night of November 4–5 and the plot being foiled in the early hours of November 5, 1605. The conspirators, led by Robert Catesby and including Guy Fawkes, planned to blow up the House of Lords during the Opening of Parliament to kill King James I and others, aiming to incite a Catholic uprising. The plot was uncovered after a letter alerted authorities, leading to Fawkes’s arrest and the eventual execution of the plotters. Today, November 5 is commemorated in the UK as Guy Fawkes Night (Bonfire Night) with fireworks to mark the foiling of the plot.
