Harrods was founded in 1849 by Charles Henry Harrod as a grocery store in the Brompton district of London, on the site of the current store. Initially starting as a small shop, it expanded rapidly under the management of Harrod's son, Charles Digby Harrod, eventually becoming a large department store.
