Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, was built and officially opened on August 26, 2017. The construction began in May 2014 and the stadium cost approximately $1.6 billion to build. It was built as a replacement for the Georgia Dome and serves as the home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and MLS's Atlanta United FC. The stadium features a retractable roof with eight panels and the opening was delayed several times due to the complexity of this roof system. Despite the roof not being fully operational at the time, the stadium still opened in August 2017.
