Pokémon was created by Satoshi Tajiri, inspired by his childhood hobby of insect collecting. The first Pokémon games, Pocket Monsters Red and Green, were released in Japan for the Game Boy on February 27, 1996. This marked the official creation of the Pokémon franchise, which later expanded to include trading card games, anime, and various other media worldwide.
