Pythagoras was born around 570 BCE on the Greek island of Samos in Ionia (modern-day Greece). His birth date is approximate since exact records from that time are not available, but scholars generally agree on this time frame based on historical sources. He later traveled to southern Italy and founded his famous school there before his death around 500 to 490 BCE.
