Radha's birth is celebrated on the festival of Radhashtami, which occurs on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. She is said to have been born in Barsana, near Mathura, as the daughter of King Vrishbhanu and Queen Kirtida, roughly 5000 years ago. According to legend, Radha was born not in the conventional way but was discovered as a divine child on a lotus in the Yamuna river. She did not open her eyes until Krishna touched her, symbolizing their divine connection. Radha is considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi and is believed to be older than Krishna by about nine to eleven months.
There is also a different figure named Radha who is an Indian actress born on June 3, 1965, but this is unrelated to the divine Radha of Hindu mythology.
