Rolex was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, England. Initially, the company was named Wilsdorf & Davis and focused on importing Swiss movements and assembling them into watch cases, which were then sold to jewelers under their own names. In 1908, the brand name "Rolex" was registered, becoming the official trademark for their watches. The company later moved its operations to Geneva, Switzerland, in 1919 due to post-war economic conditions and changed its name to Rolex Watch Co. Ltd in 1915, eventually becoming Montres Rolex SA in 1920.
