Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging on December 30, 2006. The execution took place at Camp Justice, an Iraqi army base in Baghdad. He was convicted of crimes against humanity by an Iraqi tribunal and sentenced to death. Despite his request to be executed by firing squad, the sentence was carried out by hanging on the first day of Eid al-Adha in 2006.
