Sodium was first isolated by Sir Humphry Davy in 1807 using electrolysis of fused sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at the Royal Institution in London. This marked the official discovery of the elemental form of sodium. Davy’s work followed his earlier achievement with potassium and established sodium as a distinct alkali metal.
