The 24th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified on January 23, 1964. This amendment prohibited the federal and state governments from imposing poll taxes as a condition for voting in federal elections. It was proposed by Congress on August 27, 1962, and submitted to the states on September 24, 1962, before its ratification was completed in January 1964.
