The Jefferson Memorial was built between 1939 and 1943. Construction began on December 15, 1938, and the cornerstone was laid on November 15, 1939. The memorial was dedicated on April 13, 1943, which was the 200th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's birth. Although the building was completed in 1943, the bronze statue of Jefferson was not finished and installed until 1947.
