The Night of the Long Knives took place from June 30 to July 2, 1934. It was a political purge in Nazi Germany ordered by Adolf Hitler to eliminate the leadership of the Sturmabteilung (SA) paramilitary group, including its leader Ernst Röhm, along with other political opponents. The purge lasted for about three days and was aimed at consolidating Hitler's power and securing the support of the German Army, which viewed the SA as a threat.
