Tylenol was introduced to the market in 1955 by McNeil Laboratories. Initially, it was a prescription product called Tylenol Elixir for children, marketed as a safe and effective treatment for pain and fever reduction in children. Tylenol was later made available over the counter after Johnson & Johnson acquired McNeil Laboratories in 1959.
