The Wizard of Oz film was made and released in 1939. It premiered on August 10, 1939, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with subsequent releases in other locations across the United States in August of the same year. The film was directed primarily by Victor Fleming and produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). It is based on the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.
