Gorillas are native to the tropical forests of equatorial Africa, with their range divided mainly between two species: the western gorilla and the eastern gorilla.

Eastern gorillas include mountain gorillas, which live in montane forests around the Virunga volcanoes and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and eastern lowland gorillas found in lower elevation forests within DRC
