The redwoods, specifically the coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens), are primarily found along the northern coast of California, extending nearly to the Oregon border. The most notable concentration of these trees is within the Redwood National and State Parks complex, which includes Redwood National Park and three California state parks: Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. These parks protect about 45 percent of the remaining old-growth coast redwood forests and cover roughly 139,000 acres in Del Norte and Humboldt counties

In addition to these parks, redwoods can be found in other areas of California such as Humboldt Redwoods State Park, which is home to the Avenue of the Giants, a scenic highway lined with massive redwoods. Smaller reserves like Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve and Hendy Woods State Park also feature significant redwood groves. Further south, redwoods grow along the California Central Coast in places like Big Basin State Park and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur
