The Seychelles is an island country and archipelagic state located in the Indian Ocean. It consists of about 115 islands situated northeast of Madagascar and approximately 1,000 miles (1,600 km) east of mainland Africa, near Kenya. The capital city, Victoria, is on Mahé Island, the largest island in the Seychelles group. The archipelago includes both granitic and coral islands, with a total land area of around 455 km² spread across a vast sea area. It lies between latitudes 4° and 11° S and longitudes 46° and 56° E in the Somali Sea segment of the Indian Ocean.
