Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, spent his early childhood moving between Missouri and Michigan, living in various places including St. Joseph, Savannah, Kansas City in Missouri, as well as Warren and Roseville in Michigan. He settled in Detroit, Michigan, when he was about 12 years old and grew up predominantly in a working-class, primarily Black neighborhood on Detroit's Eastside. His childhood home was located at 19946 Dresden Street in Detroit, though the house was demolished in 2013. Eminem faced bullying growing up in Detroit and his experiences there significantly influenced his music and identity.
