Pope Leo XIV attended seminary at St. Augustine Seminary High School in Holland, Michigan, which was a preparatory school run by the Augustinian Friars. He graduated from there in 1973

. After high school, he pursued further theological education at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, earning a Master of Divinity in 1982, and then studied canon law at the Pontifical College of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, where he obtained licentiate and doctorate degrees
