Princess Diana died in Paris, France. She was critically injured in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel, and despite emergency surgery and resuscitation attempts at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, she died there early in the morning at around 4:00 AM on August 31, 1997. The crash site is near the Pont de l'Alma bridge in central Paris. Diana's driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to evade paparazzi, and the car hit a concrete pillar in the tunnel.
