The Battle of Hastings took place approximately 7 miles (11 km) northwest of the town of Hastings, near the present-day town of Battle in East Sussex, England. The battlefield is located between two hills, Caldbec Hill to the north and Telham Hill to the south, on a site now known as Senlac Hill. Battle Abbey was later founded on what is traditionally believed to be the exact spot where William the Conqueror defeated King Harold on October 14, 1066, marking the Norman Conquest of England.
