The Raiders originated in Oakland, California. They were founded in 1960 as one of the original eight teams of the American Football League (AFL). The team was initially almost named the "Oakland SeƱors," but that name was quickly changed to the Oakland Raiders. The original team colors were black, gold, and white, and their emblem depicted a pirate or raider wearing a football helmet. The Raiders played their first regular season game on September 11, 1960. Over the years, the team has moved locations multiple times, including to Los Angeles and most recently to Las Vegas in 2020, but their origins are rooted in Oakland.
