Babies come from the joining of a sperm from a man and an egg from a woman. This process is called conception. When a man and a woman have sexual intercourse, sperm is released from the man's penis into the woman's vagina. If one sperm meets and joins with an egg released from the woman's ovary, they combine to form an embryo. The embryo then travels to the uterus, where it grows and develops into a baby over about nine months
. The baby grows inside the uterus, which is a special organ in the woman's body designed to nurture the developing baby. When the baby is ready to be born, it comes out through a passage called the vagina. In some cases, if a vaginal birth is not possible or safe, the baby may be delivered by a surgical procedure called a cesarean section (C-section), where the doctor makes a cut in the mother's belly to remove the baby
. Babies can also be conceived through medical assistance, such as IVF (in- vitro fertilization), where sperm and egg are combined outside the body and then the embryo is placed in the uterus
. In summary:
- Babies start from an egg (from the woman) and sperm (from the man) joining together.
- The embryo implants and grows in the uterus.
- After about nine months, the baby is born through the vagina or by C-section if needed
