Kissing bugs live primarily in the Americas, including the southern United States, Mexico, Central America, and South America. In the U.S., they have been found in 29 states, mostly in the southern and southwestern regions such as Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California, but sightings have also been reported as far north as Ohio and even in Hawaii. These bugs tend to inhabit rodent nests, animal burrows, and wildlife dens, and can be found in cracks and crevices around homes, especially near where pets or rodents live. Outdoors, they hide under porches, between rocks, wood or brush piles, and bark on trees. They are mostly nocturnal and feed on the blood of mammals, birds, and reptiles, including humans.
