Glucose comes from multiple sources, including the food you eat and synthesis within your body
. Plants also produce glucose through photosynthesis
. Sources of glucose:
- From food Most food is broken down into glucose, which is then released into the bloodstream
. In particular, carbohydrates such as bread, potatoes, and fruits are major sources of glucose
- From other sugars The body converts fructose and galactose into glucose
. You can also consume glucose directly from foods like honey or get it from foods and beverages that contain lactose, sucrose, and starch
- From synthesis Glucose can be synthesized from other metabolites in the body's cells
. The liver produces approximately 180–220 g of glucose in a day
- From plants Plants generate glucose through photosynthesis and store it as starch
