Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, Zambia to the north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. The country lies mostly within the Kalahari Desert and has a flat topography. Botswana is located roughly between longitudes 20 and 30 degrees east and latitudes 18 and 27 degrees south of the Equator. It covers about 581,730 square kilometers, making it larger than France but smaller than Texas. The capital city is Gaborone, situated near the southeastern border with South Africa.
