The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located on the right side of the abdomen, just beneath the liver. It lies in a shallow depression on the underside of the liver, specifically beneath the right lobe

. Anatomically, the gallbladder is positioned in the right hypochondrial region of the abdomen and is surrounded by peritoneum. It is adjacent to the inferior surface of the right and quadrate lobes of the liver. The gallbladder lies anterior to the first part of the duodenum and near the transverse colon

This position allows the gallbladder to store and concentrate bile produced by the liver and release it into the small intestine to aid digestion
